    I did receive an advanced copy of this book but haven't fully read through it yet. I will update my review once I've completed the book and tried some of the exercises, but so far it's really interesting, succinct, and informative. It contains lots of helpful exercises and tips for managing the body and nervous system in particular, which is what polyvagal theory is about (which is also discusses). It's also informative when it comes to trauma, the body/mind connection and the principles of somatic therapy. Looking forward to continuing and finishing this book and trying out the exercises, I love how simple it is!

    Finally, someone has shared exactly what somatic therapy is and shared it through these honest, relatable chapters. Somatic healing has become a fad, but Lisa uses practical and factual information on how it works, how it is different, why it works, and most importantly, how you can do this for yourself. I'm not claiming this will work perfectly for everyone, but pain meds are only bandaids, they do not treat the deep-seeded route causes of trauma that allows pain to easily show up as something you have to live with for life. If you want all-around integrated treatment then you will want to learn how to do this yourself or visit a somatic therapy office.

    This book is a great entry book to this topic for beginners & those knowledgeable in somatic therapy. It is written in a very comfortable & conversational tone. There are definitely technical terms used but not in a way that would feel intimidating.

    I really appreciate how there are actual usable tips & examples of how to apply somatic therapy techniques to your everyday life. There truly is something in here for everyone.

    I found this book to be a valuable introduction to and overview of somatic therapy that I believe is accessible to all who are seeking new approaches to resilience and emotional wellbeing. It provided both the foundational understanding of what somatic therapy is as well as a wide variety of modalities that can be used in this work. I appreciated the way it was organized, starting with theory and background information and moving through successive chapters with somatic exercises to address chronic pain, sleep, trauma, anger, chronic disease, and more. It then offered options for creating daily routines and finally a comprehensive list of all the modalities in the book with instructions for trying them. As Lisa shared in the book, it is always valuable to work with a Somatic Practitioner for this work, but this book was a great way to learn more and try some accessible techniques on your own.

    I’ve followed Lisa Powers for years, since receiving my Reiki training with her. So, I knew her book would give me a thorough understanding of somatic therapy. It does so much more.

    The first chapter provides a clear, easy to understand, explanation of trauma, polyvagal theory, and the mind-body connection. This mental foundation receives practical grounding in the second chapter with descriptions of basic elements, tools, for effective somatic therapy sessions.

    Written in a conversational style, Powers devotes chapters to specific uses for somatic therapy with detailed, simple exercises. She ends the book with the list and description of 50 exercises, explained throughout the book, that you can use as you may need.

    This is an excellent resource and how-to manual for health and wellness coaches, and others who do body work. It is also a good book for individuals who are able to follow exercises by reading or are just looking for more information and understanding of somatic therapy.

    Informative, easy to read, useful techniques for anyone!

    I really love this book! I read it cover-to-cover, and I'm going back now and taking notes. Also, I plan to get the paperback version as well to keep on my bookshelf with other books I already have (including but not limited to two other books by Lisa Powers).

    First: I found no glaring spelling or grammar issues (those tend to really annoy me) and it seems to have been edited with care. The sentences are well-structured, the vocabulary is easy for an average reader to understand without having to head for a dictionary or Google, and it isn't "dumbed down" so that you feel the author thinks the reader really isn't quite bright. I felt that Ms. Powers put a lot of effort into writing clearly and concisely and is obviously quite knowedgeable on the subject matter.

    Second: Each chapter builds on the one before it. This means that you learn about Somatic Therapy from a defininiton of what it is, to basic terminology to the "tool kit" with each set of "tools" explained chapter by chapter. Each chapter ends with a section on "Practical Tips" and one on "Reflection Questions".

    Third: Each chapter has "techniques" that can be put into use immediately. As someone who contends with panic/anxiety/depression on the daily, I found Chapter 4 on managing stress and anxiety extremely helpful-- I tried the techniques there immediately after reading them and yes, they do work (at least for me, and yes, I've been to doctors & therapists-- I have a rather large file folder of "instructions" on how to cope. I have to say that Ms. Powers gave much clearer and easier to follow instructions!). I plan to show my Kindle copy of the book to my doctor on my next visit.

    Fourth: A bibliography concludes the book, with each entry having currently correct hyperlinks. This is something I personally find very important.

    Lastly: Do I recommend this book? Oh, yes, I most certainly do! And I have to say, this is MY opinion and experience only, based on MY reading of the Kindle edition, and I was not paid in any manner for my review.

    This book provides many techniques to calm and heal your body. For me, I didn't know there were so many different types of stress. Any type of stress can disrupt your body and immune system. Lisa provided the tools for release and healing. The exercises are easy to do, you just have to take out the time to do them and follow her instructions. Besides meditation, I also enjoy EFT, so glad that Lisa mentioned this wonderful healing practice in this book. If you want to heal from stress, trauma (past and present), etc., this book is a must read and practice to have in our daily lives.

    Quite simply put Lisa Power's Somatic Therapy Toolkit shows us we can heal ourselves. Lisa explains in easily understandable terms what somatic healing is and goes on to explain how we can do it. The toolkit is actionable-simple steps we can take to get started healing. Please do not mistake simple for easy to do. Healing is hard work. Reading this felt like Lisa was sitting on my porch having a conversation, a tough conversation. My biggest takeaway was that healing is possible, that it is a choice that I make every single day. Some days the choice may be easy, others difficult-strategies for that in the book too!
    Along with that choice is consistency, Lisa continually emphasizes the need for consistency with whatever practice you choose to implement.

    This book has been so beautifully written and put together. There is a lot that one has to do to understand the journey of somatic healing. It’s important that it is done correctly and thoughtfully. This book starts by explaining WHAT somatic therapy is. It explains HOW to use it. After each chapter you are asked how it affected you? What did you feel? To read. To act and then to reflect really ensures that you have touched everything that was important here. It will require you to ask yourself, do I need to go back again? I can’t say enough about this book. I hope to purchase it when it is printed. I know I’ll pull it out to refresh myself on a thought or to pull it out for and friend and say “Here. You need to read this”.

It’s written in incredibly accessible, easy to digest terms that makes you want to dive right in and start your healing journey.

    As so many of us seek to balance our lives in this chaotic world, you’ll find that this book leaves you empowered and informed. The book covers many topics from trauma, work stress, and sleep issues - making it applicable for anyone. Each chapter provides detailed descriptions of the practices, making it easy to apply them to daily life. There’s also a summary section at the end of each chapter, which can serve as a quick reference as you learn which technique works best for you.

    I myself have used some of the techniques, and they’ve been very helpful.

    As someone new to and interested into diving into somatic therapy, this book has been the perfect read. It is informational, easy to follow and empowering.
    This is a book to have to read and re-read. It is so full of information and practices to do that I feel so enlightened. I haven't finished it because it was not a quick read for me. I have been digesting the information, thinking about things, and implementing the exercises. I didn't want to rush something that was so wonderful.

    I did read this in e-book format, but will definitely purchase it in paper format. It is totally worth having.

This book is so well written, thought out and Lisa is full of wisdom, knowledge and she never ceases to amazes me with everything she puts out. This book will truly help you if you are dealing with stress, emotional trauma or pain while mixing it with any of your traditional modalities and tailoring it to your needs. The way she explains the mind-body connection, lays out the different stressors, how they are all connected and can affect you in different ways and different theories and exercises to help you is just brilliant. 10/10 recommend!
